Subiton Hip Spacer

Indication of Use

The Subiton Hip Spacer is a temporary implant which main function is to preserve the articular space during a Two Stage Revision Arthroplasty. Furthermore it also aids in the treatment of the infection that emerged due to the implant of the hip prosthesis. This procedure consists of a first stage during which the infected prosthesis is removed, and the spacer is implanted. During the second stage, once the patient has finished the specific treatment and no signs of the infection remain, the spacer is removed to be replaced by a definitive new prosthesis.

Advantages

  • Efficient release of antibiotic in place.
  • Spacer metallic structure (nucleus) guarantees resistance to physiological mechanical stress.
  • The presence of Subiton Spacer prevents proximal movements (rise) of the upper femur with the resulting axis deviation of the inferior member caused by the retraction of the periarticular muscles of hip, therefore making easier the subsequent revision and reimplantation surgery.
  • Early patient recovery due to correct motion and early mobilization.
